a t1 compared to 3mb cable for the average joe would actually be a downgrade. and a really expensive one at that.

we went from 3meg cable to T1 at the Imaging Center and it was horrible at first!!! slower than cable!! I think they are going for T3 next

maybe that explains why it didn't help anything. it's actually all downloading images from the other facilities that we do there. Will the T3 help me download faster?

it's cheaper and better to rent dedicated servers. more bandwidth, already have battery backup system, don't have to worry about someone breaking into your house and taking it, all kinds of reasons to rent or colocate instead of hosting yourself

Yeah, a T3 will help.

A T1 is 1.5mbsp down/1.5 up
A T3 is 45mbps down/45 up

T3 = 28 T1s

At a full 45mbps, you could download an entire CD (700mb) in probably less than 3 mins.

You're right, but I still like having direct control over my machines and no one else having access to my crap. I should be upgrading my bandwidth to a much higher commercial connection, once I do, I'll give you guys a deal on colo if you need it.
